Funny enough today I bought shoelaces that say " I love Zombies" from Hot Topic. The guy at the cashier and I had the longest chat about what we would do during the Zombie Apocalypse and how much the shoe laces complimented our shoes ( his were paired with black converse, mine with my combat boots) Also, because we had such a great conversation, he cut the price! Hooray!:D Pictures will be shortly added.

One thing that was pointed out to me on another forum I use was how Hugh's films all take place over a short period of time. Whether its a couple of days traveling, A day bunked off school or just a Saturday detention. I think this is one of the John Hughes appeals for me. So much taking place in a condensed period of time.

Excellant show guys. Keep 'em coming!

Excellent show!

These are some of my favorite 80s movies . I recently saw Sixteen Candles and Breakfast club(again) as part of a J.Hughes tribute on tv here. Sixteen Candles really surprised me , there were so many recognizable situation that I could relate to, even though it was about a 16 year old girl. Mindy should probably see that one , it has more going for it than Breakfast club and the soundtrack is also better.

I'm not an 80s music fan but for some arcane reason I love how John Hughes utilized it in his films. Other than that and the obvious technological backwardness ( I'm a child of the internet age) I don't see much difference between then and now. Molly Ringwald has such subtle facial expressions , I love the way she conveys the horror of meeting her grandparents and uncles/aunts in Sixteen candles. CLASSSSIC.

I get all nostalgic reminiscing , the boxsets are dirtcheap at the moment.

Have a good one,

Hey guy and gal. Good to hear yet another funny, entertaining review, as always. For the Prisoner of Azkaban I have to say it was the first time (with the possible exception of Sleepy Hollow)I actually got a feeling of foreboding from a set design. Everything seemed darker, the light seemed sickly like you would have reflecting off snow at night, and the sets seemed rather gothic inspired. I wasn't that interested in seeing this movie. I had at the time only just been forced into reading the books by my soon to be wife. The first two books I trudged through and was unimpressed with. During the evacuation for hurricane Rita I decided it was a good chance to catch up to her (Fat chance she consumes the books. One week for all seven!) so I packed along Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, and Order of the Phoenix. It turned out to be a remarkably good choice since we couldn't get back home for three weeks so plenty of downtime. Prisoner was an engaging read but I fear it suffered from my disappointment with the previous books. It was good enough that I looked forward from there on however and Goblet of Fire is probably my favorite of the series followed by Half-blood Prince.

It is strange how one could go from an uncaring, unbiased observer of the movies, to enraged fanboy when a favorite scene or character is deleted for time sake. (Where the hell were Bill and Fleur?!?! And I already know I'm gonna be torn to shreds when a certain jovial doppelganger exits so I actually wouldn't mind being spared that.)In short I owe a lot to Prisoner of Azkaban for giving me a second look at a great series. I think the movie suffered for me in the same way. It was the turning point where things starting getting serious but was still just the first opening of the deeper plot within so I could feel how long it would take for things to come to fruition and that soured the experience for me. I think Goblet (for being the first to go there)and Half-blood (for the great guardians demise) rank so highly for me because they seem the most real, as far as endings go, with the price for victory being ultimately high. So while it is not my favorite movie or book in the series I do still appreciate it for opening my eyes to a deeper story within. Pratchett's still better in my opinion though. When does Good Omens come out again?

Keep up the great work. Here's wishing you many more with no Mindays in sight.

This was a great show, my favourite so far. Thanks to yourselves and Kwame for a great hour of podcasting.

I watched the film last night. I was already feeling pretty emotional when I set down to watch. Probably not the best mood to watch it, the film really knocked me for six. One of the most moving films I’ve seen. I listened to your podcast this morning and it brought all those emotions flooding back.

I am so annoyed at myself that I've not watched this film until now. It's excellent 5/5 for me.

Mark pointed out that any progress we’ve made comes at the expense of people who’ve come before. I think this is sometimes forgotten and it’s nice to be reminded.

As for Joe Miller’s ignorance of how he could ‘catch AIDS’. I thought he dealt with
it pretty well. He didn’t know how it could be transmitted so he asked a medical
professional. If only all of us had the sense to get our facts from educated sources.
I feel that the way the UK government dealt with the threat of AIDS/HIV had a lot to
do with people’s fear. I was only young when the campaign to alert people to the
dangers of AIDS began. It seemed to try and frighten people into taking precautions
against the disease. This helped add fear to the population’s reaction to it. They
knew they were terrified by the headlines, tv ad’s and billboard posters. They just
never bothered to do any real research.

I am not a huge Princess Di fan but I will always respect her for hugging/shaking
hands with AIDS sufferers. This did more in the UK for common sense than any
campaign ever would.

On a lighter note, If you both like Women on the Verge… when’s the episode? Gazpacho!

As for Lovefilm. To be fair they’ve always given me an exemplary service. I have
never had to make a complaint. They seem to have a much worse reputation in the
US than they deserve.

I really didn't get the buzz about this film. It seemed like it had great potential but missed the spot. I'm not a huge fan of overblown noir in the first place. Setting noir in a high school just made it worse for me. It was like Bugsy malone a few years older. It felt to me like watching a GCSE drama project. Teen's trying to play the gravitas that they just didn't have. I have to watch it again soon for SS MOTW. Maybe I'll see things differently when I know what to expect. I think the hype probably added to my disappointment on my first viewing.

Brilliant episode. I love this film and I really enjoyed your take on it. Thanks for inspiring a rewatch.

You know it's gonna be a fun film when the saucer zooms around the Warner Bros sign before the film starts. I didn't realise the red and green was a wink to Christmas, that's so cool. One of my fave scenes is where the Martians are being put into their spacesuits. I have no idea why but that machine just tickled me. I also love it when the chihuahua starts scratching after it's 'operation'. The pinching of the handbag was another scene that just makes me giggle. The last thing I can think of is the alien reading the porn magazine. I think I could watch this film dozens of times and keep picking up new littel titbits.

This is Burton at his best for me. The film looks amazing and is great fun.

I remember when I first listened to the soundtrack. I wore out the soles of feet dancing to You Can't Stop the Beat and Ladies' Man. I had a good number of blisters from dancing so hard to it. I even made so much noise that the people downstairs called to get my stomping to stop. It was also one of the first few dances I actually performed in front of my friends. Ah good times.

I loved this episode, and while there were some things about the finale that I wasn't too happy with, I give Moore credit for getting really close to great, given the staggering expectations everyone had.

On the subject of 'Frak', the original show had scads of 'different' words including the two swear words 'Frak' and 'Felgercarb'. Years were 'Yarins', minutes were 'Centons', seconds were 'Microns', and dogs were 'Daggits'. They even called a spider a 'Crawlon' ffs!

As for the only gay characters being negative, I'm not sure I agree with that. Gaeta wasn't clearly gay to anyone who didn't either talk to Mark, or watch the webisodes. And we discussed on the last Starbase that Cain may not have been gay. It may have been that the Sixes were created to be so good at seduction that gender became irrelevant.

In any case the show was awesome enough to keep us talking about it for years. I just hope 'Caprica' and 'The Plan' don't end up being too many trips to the well.

So say we all. ;-)

Hey guy and gal, loved the show, as always. Thought I'd throw in some background and perhaps give a little more insight into the film. In Dissociative Identity Disorder there are personalities that the "original" visits most often. These are host or primary personalities. It would seem Ed was the host since Dr. Malik has conspired with him to bring about this therapy.

Personalities can also have different levels of awareness. They can be Mutually Amnesiac - being unaware of any others, Mutually Cognizant - being aware of the other personalities, One Way Amnesiac - with some aware and others unaware, or Co-conscious - a few that are aware of each other in a one way amnesiac.

It would seem this was either a co-conscious with small groups having already formed (the Yorks, Ed and Caroline, and the convicts) or a one way amnesiac with Timmy being the only one aware of the stakes. They are all thrown into a mutually cognizant state that rocks their world and the weaker personalities are eliminated until only one survives.

One freakier aspect with D.I.D. is that physical aspects can change: eye color, handedness, insulin producing individuals with diabetic personalities having insulin production shut down, limb paralysis, etc.

Hey guy and gal, loved the show, as always. Thought I’d throw in some background and perhaps give a little more insight into the film. In Dissociative Identity Disorder there are personalities that the “original” visits most often. These are host or primary personalities. It would seem Ed was the host since Dr. Malik has conspired with him to bring about this therapy.

Glad you did this episode. This combined with Starbase and other BSG episodes of podcasts have helped me to understand what I actually watched! I have been slightly distracted for half of this season with ScutterCast and general internet usage (PC has found its way into front room!) I was so glad to find that I wasn't the only one that wasn't entirely happy with the BSG finale, and that aspects of the ending were as baffling to others as me!!

No REAL point to this message other than to say thanks!! Your fellow Sim Synner and ScutterCast voice-ee Antony (oriSTUDFARM)

Great episode. I saw 'Brick' once and thought it was a refreshing film with some innovative aspects ( par example - the striking match sound ) .

If you ever do a Kaufman film or something , I would love to join you as a guest.

Great episode. I love how you guys enjoy making this podcast so much.

The bit on the end was excellent. That message needs to be out out as much as possible. With people like you helping hopefully it will reach those that need to hear it most.

Always saw this in the local movie rental but the cover threw me off. I had no idea what it was about apart from Zombies, not my cup of tea, and had no clue of the hilarity that was waiting inside. Will have to add it to my Netflix now. Keep up the great work. P.S. Even when you go on those angents it is still very interesting and engaging listening. Don't feel bad about it in the slightest. Can't wait to see what ya'll do next.

Great episode. This is one my all time favourites. To cheat I class this and ptII as the same film in top 10 lists. PtI just pips it for me though, by the tiniest amount. PtIII is a travesty it's so unsubtle it should have been Scarface ptII and not part of the Godfather universe.

One of my fave scenes ever is where the baker 'stands guard' with Michael. To see him so terrified yet still there. He seems so grateful to the man who helped him stay in the US. (Maybe he's also scared to refuse Michael?)

The use of sound strikes me in 2 scenes. The use of the subway train in the restaurant scene and as Mark mentioned in the Christening scene.

The big question is - Did you convince Rick to watch it?
